Reasons for female feticides

Female feticide persists due to entrenched patriarchal attitudes valuing sons over daughters, economic pressures linked to dowry, limited healthcare access, and societal stigma. Gender bias leads to devaluing female offspring, perpetuating the tragic practice. Economic concerns, especially in regions where dowry is customary, contribute to the choice of terminating female pregnancies. Insufficient healthcare access drives couples to resort to unsafe methods for sex determination and abortion. Social pressures, including fear of ostracization, further compel this devastating decision. Effective solutions require dismantling patriarchal norms, promoting gender equality, improving healthcare access, and enforcing laws against sex-selective abortions to safeguard the rights of every girl child.
